50 Shots is a personal photo essay that highlights 50 Black Men who live in Chicago. The essay aimed to negate the myth that black men are up to no good and make aware that they are human, just like everyone else.
I took and edited 50 photos of Black men living in Chicago who are all friends or colleagues of mine. Playing off of the idea of a mugshot, I had them write at least 5 things on a board that people might not know about them just by looking at them. I designed all of the graphic identity for the show: logo, flyers, sinage, posters, etc. I held an opening reception at elee.mosynary Gallery in Chicago’s art district where over 100 people attended. It then traveled to La Catrina Cafe and then was hung at Beauty & Brawn Art Gallery.
